Three Fires at Santa Rosa Recology Facility Caused by Batteries

Improper battery disposal is to blame for three fires at a Recology facility in south Santa Rosa. The fires happened on April 30th, May 22nd, and May 24th at the materials recovery center for Recology Marin-Sonoma. The company serves all of Sonoma County except for the cities of Sonoma and Windsor. Officials say all three fires were caused by household batteries or battery packs being improperly tossed into recycling bins instead of properly disposed. One of the fires destroyed a nearly half-million-dollar piece of equipment.
