Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman needs surgery after fracturing his spine earlier this week. Baxman took a fall on Wednesday, after stepping off his two-and-a-half-ton Army truck. The chief was hospitalized in Santa Rosa, then transferred to U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, where he will undergo surgery this morning. Baxman is expected to return home this weekend to continue his recovery.
