Cal Fire Engineer in Sonoma County Officially Charged with Arson

A Cal Fire employee is officially facing arson charges in connection with a series of wildfires in Sonoma County. Late Monday, 38-year-old Robert Hernandez, a Healdsburg resident, was charged with five counts of arson. Each count is connected with a fire that started since August 15th. Hernandez was arrested last Friday morning, at the Howard Forest Fire Station in Willits. A judge has also ordered he be held without bail and scheduled a bail hearing for October 1st. Hernandez works as a fire apparatus engineer, meaning he operates and maintains fire engines during emergency responses. He is accused of starting the fires while off-duty.
