Dr. Karen Smith (County of Sonoma)
Doctor Karen Smith will serve as Sonoma County’s interim health officer for the second time in a little more than a year. Smith will temporarily take over the position after Doctor Tanya Phares resigned from the job last month, after holding it for less than a year. Before Phares was hired, Doctor Kismet Baldwin-Santana was interim health officer for two months. Smith last served as interim health officer between August and November of last year. Smith is both a former California public health officer and director of the California Department of Public Health.
