PG&E Launches First Public Safety Power Shutoff Of The Year

PG&E has cut power to approximately 4,700 customers across 15 California counties, marking the utility’s first public safety power shutoff of the year.

According to the Press Democrat, the proactive outages hit parts of Sonoma, Napa, and Lake counties on Sunday after being initiated in response to dangerous fire weather. Officials say a volatile combination of high temperatures, strong winds, and dry vegetation prompted the decision to preemptively kill the grid and avoid catastrophic wildfires.

All targeted customers were officially powered down by Sunday afternoon, and PG&E has not yet announced when it will be safe to restore electricity.
