Illegal Fireworks Spark Fires Across Sonoma County

Illegal fireworks kept local emergency crews busy over the Independence Day weekend, sparking at least six fires across Sonoma County.

The Press Democrat reports dispatchers were flooded with hundreds of neighborhood complaints, particularly in Santa Rosa, where more than thirteen-hundred calls came in over the two-day holiday peak.

Firefighters quickly doused vegetation blazes in Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park, and Petaluma, where aerial fireworks caught a home’s fence on fire and burned grass along the SMART train tracks. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of the incidents, and nearby Napa County reported no fire calls at all.

Officials remind residents that fireworks are completely illegal throughout Sonoma County except in Cloverdale, and Santa Rosa police confirmed one Windsor man was cited and had his fireworks confiscated.
