Remembering Steve Garner

Announcemnet in regards to the future of Garden Talk and The Good Food Hour…

KSRO is committed to continuing the legacy Steve Garner built here over more than 40 years.

Steve’s passion for gardening, food, Sonoma County and connecting with listeners became an important part of the fabric of KSRO, and we know how much these programs mean to our audience.

We’re taking the time to thoughtfully work on the next evolution of our gardening and food programming, with the goal of honoring what Steve created while finding the right way to carry that tradition forward.

Most importantly, we’re committed to being here for our listeners, continuing to be a trusted part of your lives, your kitchens, your gardens and our community. We’re grateful for the many years you’ve shared with Steve and KSRO, and we look forward to sharing what comes next with you very soon.

It is with great sadness that Amaturo Sonoma Media Group and KSRO share the news of the passing of Steve Garner.
For more than 40 years, Steve was an important part of KSRO and a beloved part of the Sonoma County community. His voice became familiar to generations of listeners, as did his passion for radio, food, gardening, and so many of the things he loved to share with his audience. The relationships he built over the years made him a truly special part of our station family.
Steve was much more than a colleague. He was a friend, a trusted voice, and someone who made a lasting connection with the people around him. His impact on KSRO and on the listeners he served for so many years goes far beyond his time behind the microphone.
From his co-host of The Good Food Hour Emily Ash Lamb:
I will always remember Steve’s love of being live on the air, and the special kind of magic he had in bringing together everyone who entered the studio. With his silky-smooth voice and genuine curiosity, he wanted to know how each person came to be the chef, author, gardener, or artist they were. His interest in people was sincere, and his zest for life was undeniable.

For 38 years, Steve worked alongside my father, creating what they both proudly loved to call “the longest-running food show in America.” To have had the opportunity to work beside Steve myself has been an extraordinary gift. He inspired me not only as a broadcaster, but as a person.

I cannot express how deeply I will miss him. I hope to carry his legacy forward in my own work—and to live with as much love for good food, beautiful plants, great music, fascinating people, and the simple joy of being alive as Steve did.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Steve’s wife, Nanette, his family, friends, colleagues, and the many listeners who welcomed Steve into their lives and considered him part of their own radio family.
We are honored to have shared in Steve’s incredible 40-plus-year history with KSRO, and we are grateful for everything he gave to this station and to the community he cared so deeply about.
Steve will be deeply missed, and his voice, his friendship, and his legacy will always be a part of the KSRO family.
