The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office isn’t willing to ask a judge to have a man’s DUI conviction overturned after he was represented by a fake attorney. Norberto Ramirez Perez was convicted of DUI in 2014, but was represented by an attorney who was later revealed to be unlicensed. He is now represented by the Sonoma County Public Defender’s Office, who doesn’t know where he is. The Public Defender recently wrote a petition to overturn the conviction. In a response, the DA’s Office says, until Ramirez Perez is found, he can’t explain whether he understood the attorney’s status at the time. Attorneys are scheduled to present arguments for and against overturning the conviction in front of a judge on March 7th.
