This month, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department will launch a new Narcotics Unit. Initially, the unit will include one sergeant and two deputies, focusing on combating fentanyl-related crimes and opioid overdoses. Their mission is to target those supplying these dangerous drugs and to identify new abuse trends. The task force will also work on educating the community about the dangers of this epidemic. The department hopes to secure full funding for the unit in the next fiscal year.
