Community Conversations on Race – Sylvia Lemus

Host Michelle Marques talks with Sylvia Lemus, community leader and partner in Lemus Family Wines. Sylvia talks about her family roots in Sonoma County, and a project she embarked on with her cousins to create a wine label inspired by her grandparents. The name of the wine, Primani, is a combination of the word for cousin in Spanish (primo/a) and her grandfather’s name, Manuel, or Mani for short. As a Latina, she appreciates the fact that much of the agricultural and vineyard work done in Sonoma County is done by people of color, yet there are not many Latinx winery owners or winemakers. Sylvia also talks about growing up in Sonoma County and how things have changed culturally in areas like Roseland.
