Emeritus Vineyards & Hobo Wine Co.

Last Thursday I spoke with Mari Jones of Emeritus Vineyards in Sebastopol. We chatted by Zoom, which so many people are doing these days. And that’s appropriate, as I wanted to talk with her about the Social Happy Hour and Virtual tastings they’re doing. It’s almost as good as the real thing, especially if you have Emeritus wine in front of you. Emeritus was the second major project of Mari’s father, Bryce Jones who founded Sonoma-Cutrer. She is now President of the company and they’re doing quite well. In the current issue of Wine & Spirits Magazine, Emeritus placed 33rd out of 50 on the list of Most Popular Wines in America’s Top Restaurants. Way to go, Bryce and Mari!

Since the previous Wednesday was the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day I thought it was good to showcase another winery dedicated to sustainable practices, this time Hobo Wine Company. Kenny and his wife have chosen Sonoma Clean Power’s Evergreen program to power his winery. What’s up with the name Hobo? He’ll explain, and it makes sense.

Coincidentally, Hobo Wine Company’s Folk Machine 2017 Chalone Brosseau Vineyard landed on Wine & Spirit Magazine’s list of Year’s Best Pinot Noirs. I snagged some highly rated guests for this week’s show! Please enjoy the show while you shelter in place. Stay well!
