Fire Ready North Bay – Coffey Strong and United Policy Holders

Host Michelle Marques talks with Adam Iveson, co-founder of Ember Defense and Annie Barbour, a survivor of the 2017 Tubbs Fire, and one of the founders of Coffey Strong. Annie shares the story of how she and her neighbors awoke to fire and embers raining down on their neighborhood in the early morning hours of October 9, 2017. In the aftermath of the losses in Coffey Park and other neighborhoods in Sonoma County, Annie took on the role of a block captain to help organize recovery efforts.

During the months and years since the 2017 fires, Annie began first volunteering with United Policy Holders, a non-profit organization that focuses on insurance consumer education and advocacy, helping people to understand insurance and get the protection they’ve paid for. Once Annie began working with UPH, she realized how much she could help others in a similar situation. She now works for United Policy Holders as the NorCal Coordinator, helping communities impacted by disasters with their Local Access Centers, offering one on one help and group assistance.
