PG&E is asking state regulators to approve a rate hike to fund new polices aimed at improving wildfire safety. The utility yesterday asked for a more than one-billion dollar rate increase that would increase household electric bills an average of just under nine dollars a month. If approved, the higher rates would begin in 2020. Meanwhile, PG&E is under investigation for its possible role in the Camp Fire, and is facing potential liabilities from the deadly October 2017 wildfires in and around Sonoma County.
