The renowned Mavericks surfing competition is likely not happening until January, but that didn’t stop some surfers from taking on the monster waves in Half Moon Bay on Monday. The World Surf League opted to postpone the event because the waves were too big and dangerous, but dozens of surfers opted to take on the waves that reached up to 60 feet. There were wipeouts, but safety crews were on hand and conducted at least one rescue, but no major injuries are being reported.
