Fewer students are enrolling in foreign language classes at colleges and universities across California. Paula Krebs, Executive Director of the Modern Language Association of America, says more than 177-thousand students took foreign language classes between 2013 and 2016.
To combat the decline, the association recommends investing in hiring faculty as well as having foreign language graduation requirements. Enrollments fell for classes in most languages, with the exception of Japanese and Korean.
