San Francisco Using Technology to Reduce Marijuana Convictions

San Francisco’s top prosecutor is using technology to erase or reduce eight-thousand marijuana convictions. The district attorney confirmed yesterday his is the first California prosecutor’s office to publicly announce full compliance in clearing criminal records required when voters approved the legalization of pot. Proposition 64 wiped out convictions but provided no way to identify cases. The San Francisco district attorney says the nonprofit Code for America organization used computer-based algorithms to identify eligible cases.
