California has the lowest COVID-19 infection rate in the country. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the state has recorded the lowest average number of cases per capita for the past two weeks, surpassing Hawaii. At the peak of the coronavirus surge, California recorded 40-thousand new cases a day. Those numbers have fallen to about 23-hundred daily cases since the holidays.
