Petaluma police are looking for a suspected thief who stole cash from two stores Wednesday evening. Police first got a call around 7:30 PM about a theft at the Safeway on South McDowell boulevard where a black man in all black clothing asked for change from a cashier. When the cashier was distracted, the suspect stole an undetermined amount of cash from the register and fled the area in an unknown direction.

Less than an hour later, police received a call from the 7-11 located at Lakeville Highway and Marina Avenue about a robbery. They reported a suspect, who matched the description of the Safeway robber, entered the 7-11, went behind the sales counter and forcefully pushed the clerk out of the way of the register while taking an undetermined amount of cash before leaving without further incident. Surveillance from the 7-11 showed the suspect leaving in a dark blue 4-door, newer model Chevy Cruze.
