Coronavirus Cases Rising in Sonoma County Ahead of Statewide Reopening

Sonoma County is not headed in the right direction as statewide COVID-19 restrictions are about to be lifted.

Our 7-day daily average of active cases was at 305 on May 19th. Today, that number is at 454. On top of that, the county reported it’s first death in almost two weeks bringing the death toll to 316. County Health officer Dr. Sundari Mase says that our vaccination rates are preventing “the worst outcomes that we experienced during the height of the pandemic.” However, Dr. Mase added they are still seeing cases “mostly in young, unvaccinated individuals who are gathering with others.”
