Lawmakers in Sacramento are considering extending the eviction moratorium beyond the June 30th deadline. Speculation is that the new extension could go to the end of September or possibly the end of 2021. On top of that, Governor Newsom has stated that the state will pay off all the past-due rent that accumulated in California during the pandemic. The state has $5.2 billion available through multiple aid packages which the governor’s office says is more than enough. However, distribution has been frustratingly slow. Just $32-million has been distributed out of the $490-million in requests for rental assistance.
