Sonoma County health officials say that cases of the coronavirus Delta variant are increasing. Health officials said yesterday that genetic testing of selected samples has now detected 115 cases of the variant in the county. That is a sizable increase from the near 70 infections that were reported less than two weeks ago. Medical experts in California and nationwide say that most of the people getting infected with the Delta variant are unvaccinated.

Meanwhile, Sonoma County has reopened a care center to isolate homeless residents as coronavirus cases surge. County officials have reopened an alternative care site at the Best Western Dry Creek Inn in Healdsburg. The site is expected to stay open for at least 30 days. It was open for over a year before closing in June. This comes after the county reported seven new positive cases at the Sam Jones Hall Homeless Shelter in Santa Rosa, raising the caseload in that outbreak to 90.
