New inmates at the Sonoma County Jail will be tested for Covid-19. A new health order from the County’s department of public health will require all inmates in detention facilities in Sonoma County, including juvenile hall, to test for COVID-19, regardless of the individual’s vaccination status, upon entry into the facility. If an inmate tests positive, the inmate must be isolated according to the isolation protocol of the detention facility. Health officer Dr. Sundari Mase says that inmates are especially vulnerable due to their close quarters and increase odds of pre-existing conditions. The order will take effect on October 1st.
