The site of the old Roseland University Prep campus on Sebastopol Avenue will now be a cannabis dispensary with a growing operation and a consumption lounge. The Santa Rosa City Council approved the move in a 4 to 1 vote despite objections from community members. The council took public comment for two hours, and ranged from support for the dispensary and safe medical access, and on the opposite end, concerns about potential crime. Councilman Tom Schwedhelm, who formerly served as Santa Rosa’s police chief, said he has not seen a rise in crime around dispensaries. The school site has been vacant for 19 months and the dispensary concept was brought forward by two Sonoma County businesswomen.
