Scammers throughout California are targeting people looking for COVID-19 tests. As the Omicron variant spreads throughout the state, demand for at-home COVID-19 tests is at all-time highs. Crooks are selling fake test kits and sometimes getting personal and medical information as part of the transaction. Medicare and the elderly in retirement communities are also being targeted by scammers. Some say they were pressured into paying inflated prices for at-home tests. Governor Gavin Newsom issued an Executive Order last week to stop price gouging of test kits.
