Sonoma County’s emergency rental aid program is on pause. The program has granted about 25-million dollars to over two-thousand households since it was launched in April 2021. Chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, James Gore, said pausing the program will help officials get through the remaining applications. There are currently around four-thousand households waiting for assistance and a remaining fifteen-million in state and federal funds. The county may seek additional funding if low-income renters are still struggling with finances because of COVID-19. The National Equity Atlas estimates that eight-thousand local households gained more than 27-million in rental debt at the end of last year.
