Sonoma County’s assessor office is way behind on applications to transfer taxes from one house to another. The county has seen an 18-percent increase in transfer requests since Proposition 19 passed in November 2020. The law allows homeowners over the age of 55 to keep a better tax rate when they sell a house and buy another. Sonoma County’s Assessors Change Of Ownership Supervisor Barbara Green said the office is usually done with transfers in March. However, the county has only completed ten out of 342 requests.
