A group of about three-dozen students, staff members and two city councilmembers staged a protest at Santa Rosa Junior College. They held a sit-in yesterday, to show their displeasure with a recent decision made by the school’s Academic Senate. The March 16th Senate vote decided who will participate in the faculty hiring process. Students are now allowed on faculty hiring committees, but there’s a catch. Faculty members pick the students who will sit on the committee. SRJC Student Body President Delashay Carmona-Benson tells the Press Democrat this violates the California Code of Regulations, which outlines students’ rights to participate in governance of their college.
