Thousands of public safety employees in California are getting a pandemic bonus. The Newsom administration says the $1,500 payments will go to members of three unions representing correctional workers, CHP officers, park rangers and lifeguards. To qualify, workers must have been employed in their position from January 1st through July 1st of this year. The Sacramento Bee reports California’s allotment of federal American Rescue Plan money has already been assigned, but the state will provide the bonus payments from other funding sources. State HR officials say the source will depend on the department for which the employee works. The agreements must be approved by the legislature.
