Stranded boat in Bodega Harbor (Sonoma Sheriff)
A couple of boats have had to be rescued due to this winter storm. On Wednesday morning, a boat in the Petaluma Marina took on water and began to sink while leaking fuel and bilge water. Firefighters responded and managed to bring the ship back up using a inflatable rescue boat and used booms to contain the hazardous materials. Then on Thursday morning, a sailboat docked in Bodega Harbor went aground and stuck on the rocks near Porto Bodega. Marine Deputies responded and found that the boat was leaking fuel and chemicals into the water. An oil and chemical boom was placed around the vessel to contain the fuel and chemicals. Emergency personnel are continuing to monitor the sail boats condition and the owner is working with the Marine Unit on a plan to retrieve the boat hopefully by today.
