Tomorrow is Sonoma County’s Homeless Point-in-Time count. The count will be conducted tomorrow morning across the county and will be done by volunteers with the aid of 30-40 homeless individuals who are paid to help.
“It’s an observational only count so we do cover every census track in the county,” said Michael Gause, the Sonoma County Continuum of Care Coordinator. “Don’t engage with folks, it’s visual only. We have to get up very early in the morning to count folks who are unsheltered or are outside because we count people who are actually homeless in the shelters the night before.”
Michael Gause oversees the count and tells KSRO’s The Drive that they survey 500 homeless people regarding their situation.
“That’s where we get all the information. Where did somebody comes from, why did they become homeless, did they lose their job, was the covid pandemic a factor, which is what we saw a year ago.”
The data is then counted and analyzed and released in the summer.
