SMART Riding High with $74-Million More in Funding

Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit suddenly has 74-million more dollars in funding. Last week, SMART got 40-million-dollars after the California Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit that freed up Bay Area bridge toll money. On Monday, Governor Newsom announced two-and-a-half-billion-dollars in funding grants, which included more than 34-million-dollars for SMART. The money will be used to boost an effort to extend the rail line north to Healdsburg. Ridership is also rebounding for the transit agency. Last Friday and Monday had the highest ridership totals for those weekdays since the pandemic started.
