Kincade Fire Victims Could Get Break from State Income Taxes

A state bill is being introduced to help Kincade Fire Victims. State Senator Bill Dodd and state Assembly members Jim Wood and Damon Connolly have introduced a bill that would exempt survivors of the Kincade Fire from paying state income taxes on any settlement awards from PG&E. While settlements have been reached regarding local governments, residents that were affected have yet to receive any compensation for the 2019 fire. PG&E faces up to $800 million in liabilities for personal damage claims. The bill would have no effect on federal taxes. Efforts for exemption at the federal level have so far failed but a federal tax relief bill for victims was reintroduced in January.
