Sonoma County Supervisors Advance Plan to Open Two Managed Homeless Encampments

Sonoma County is closer to establishing a pair of managed homeless encampments on county-owned property. On Tuesday, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors voted to advance a plan that would set up camps in the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building parking lot, and lots on the county’s administrative campus. The two sites would host a total of 80 to 100 tents and 25 RVs. Supervisors also declared a shelter crisis for the Joe Rodota Trail in west Santa Rosa. Concerns about the growing homeless encampment on that trail are one of the main reasons the board is taking action on the managed encampment plan. The two sites would initially need three-million-dollars in funding approved by the board to operate, and could stay open for at least a year.
