Sonoma County Changes Cannabis Cultivation Tax Rates

Sonoma County is changing its cannabis tax rates. Tuesday’s vote by the county Board of Supervisors means some growers will pay less taxes, while others will start paying more. Starting in July, growers will pay a tax rate of 75-cents per square foot for outdoor operations, 12-dollars and 50-cents per square foot for indoor cultivation, and three-dollars per square foot for mixed-light cultivation. That’s where growers use a combination of artificial and natural light. Outdoor growers will be paying less taxes, while indoor cultivators will be paying more. Small mixed-light operators will likely pay more, while large mixed-light operators will likely pay less.
