California is taking new action to help storm victims. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency yesterday for 13 counties to assist with disaster response and relief. The list includes Los Angeles, Madera, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Sonoma counties. Newsom also activated the State Operations Center to support efforts already underway, especially in San Bernardino County. That’s where roofs are collapsing under the weight of snow. Families are also dealing with frozen pipes and food shortages.
