The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is making it easier for residents to pursue legal action against a small, private shooting range in Sebastopol. Neighbors have been complaining about the shooting range since late last spring. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said the range was up to code and safety standards, and was complying with the county’s small arm device ordinance. But, neighbors wanted the Board of Supervisors to clarify the Sheriff’s Department’s interpretation of the code. A resolution, approved Tuesday, adds violations of the firearms safety zone law to the list of county code violations that someone can file a lawsuit about. Residents will be allowed to recoup attorney’s fees if they do file and win their lawsuit.
