Sonoma Pushes Back on Demolishing Historic Bungalow for Apartment Complex

The Town of Sonoma is rejecting, at least for the moment, a developer’s attempt to demolish an historic bungalow on Sonoma Highway and replaced it with a 64-unit apartment complex. The developer, DeNova Homes, is seeking to demolish the Evelyn L. Montaldo house and replace it with an apartment complex. DeNova filed a “builder’s remedy” last month, a legal tactic that could force the town to permit construction of a project that may not follow city code. However, the Town of Sonoma rejected it this week wanting to pursue the previous 50-unit plan instead. It’s unclear whether DeNova will appeal the decision.
