The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office is charging a 15-year-old student with voluntary manslaughter following a deadly stabbing on the campus of Santa Rosa’s Montgomery High School. He also faces weapons charges in connection with bringing a knife on campus. The boy, identified in court documents as Daniel Jesus Pulido, is accused of stabbing two 16-year-old boys who allegedly attacked him in the middle of an art class last Wednesday. One died and the other has a wounded hand. Prosecutors say, with the evidence they’ve reviewed so far, it appears Pulido acted at least partly in self-defense. He will not be prosecuted as an adult.
Protests and demonstrations of anger continue nearly a week after the attack. Students staged a mass walkout on Monday morning, during the first day of classes since the deadly violence. About 200 students, many wearing black, gathered at the front of the school and voiced their concerns through signs, speeches, and chants. One student held a sign that read “Am I Next?” while others called out administrators.
