Governor Gavin Newsom says California is turning the San Quentin Prison into a rehab facility. The Governor says by 2025, San Quentin, currently housing more than three thousand maximum security prisoners, will be turned into a Scandinavian rehab center. The LA Times says the 20 million dollar project will turn San Quentin into a center for job training and placement, with comfortable, open living spaces. The Scandinavian model says life should be as normal as possible for those convicted of crimes, while they serve the punishment of separation from the community, while help prison guards with less stressful situations.
