Newsom Signs New Law Enabling California to Punish Oil Companies for High Prices

A new California law aims to protect drivers at the pump.  Governor Gavin Newsom signed the nation’s first penalty for high gas prices yesterday.  It lets state regulators fine oil companies for making too much money after they raked in record profits last year.  Newsom says this will end “the oil industry’s days of operating in the shadows.”  The attorney general echoed that, adding it’s about accountability and transparency.  The law begins June 26th.
