Petaluma Valley Hospital Halting Baby Deliveries on May 1st

Baby deliveries at the popular Petaluma Valley Hospital birth center will stop on May 1st. Providence, which owns the hospital, made the announcement Tuesday. Company officials say there will be an “interruption” in obstetrics services because the hospital’s family birth center doesn’t have enough staffing and resources on hand to keep operating safely. Providence says it wasn’t able to permanently secure obstetrics anesthesia and recruit physicians for the facility. Providence bought the hospital from the Petaluma Valley Healthcare District two years ago. One of the terms of the sale stated Providence would continue operating the maternity ward until at least 2025.
