PG&E Reminding Folks of Dangers with Melting Snow

Record snowfall in California has PG&E reminding people across the state that we could see significantly higher rivers and streams when the snow melts.  Outdoor recreationalists should also expect cold and strong fast-moving water.  If you go into the water, take extra precautions especially around hydroelectric facilities and dams where water flow can change quickly.  Officials say know your limits, wear a life jacket or just avoid the water if it seems unsafe.  When water flows are influenced by massive snowmelt, even the strongest swimmers can easily get into trouble.  Swimming in open water is not like swimming in a pool.  You can tire more quickly and also be met with large amounts of dangerous debris under the water’s surface.
