Sonoma County Leaders React to Berkeley Natural Gas Ban Getting Overturned

Sonoma County leaders are speaking out after a federal appeals court struck down the city of Berkeley’s ban on natural gas in new buildings. Petaluma Mayor Kevin McDonnell says this week’s ruling won’t dampen his city’s commitment to decarbonization in future and existing developments. Petaluma is one of several cities in Sonoma County with a form of a natural gas ban in place. It requires all new construction and substantial alterations feature all electric appliances, or be designed without any gas plumbing. Santa Rosa also requires all electric appliances in new residential construction that’s three stories high or less. Gas plumbing is also banned from those new homes and properties.
