California’s record snow pack is still more than twice the usual amount for this time of year. The Department Of Water Resources was at the Phillips Station snow course near Echo Summit Monday and found 59 inches of snow depth and a snow water equivalent of 30 inches. Observers say on May 1st, that is 241-percent of the peak average for the location near South Lake Tahoe. Statewide, the remote sensor network puts the Sierra snow pack at 254-percent of normal. DWR says despite warmer temperatures in late April, the snow melted slower than expected. The last time there was measurable snow at the Phillips snow course on May 1st was 2020 when there was only one-and-a-half inches compared to 59 this year.
