Copperfield’s Books Petaluma Votes to Unionize

Copperfield’s Books employees in Petaluma are unionizing. The staff have voted in favor of unionization 13 to 2 and will now begin drafting a contract and setting up a bargaining meeting with Copperfield’s. The Bohemian reports that these efforts are rooted in several frustrations including low pay, inadequate healthcare benefits and a lack of clarity on how to respond to discrimination by customers. Ahead of the vote, the chain put out a statement saying “We believe that management has continuously demonstrated care for our employees, and we think creating a division between Management and Booksellers may be detrimental to our team.“
