California is putting nearly eight-million dollars into a grant program for security upgrades at abortion clinics. The money will be distributed to 21 Planned Parenthood offices and private facilities that provide abortion-related care and services. Governor Gavin Newsom says the grants are intended to bolster physical and data security. The Physical and Digital Infrastructure Security Grant Program is run by the California Office of Emergency Services and the Department of Health Care Access and Information. California began preparing to become the nation’s sanctuary state for abortion services more than a year ago. Voters in 2022 approved a constitutional amendment enshrining abortion rights in state law.
