Montgomery High School was on lockdown for two hours after a student was seen with a gun on Friday, May 12.

The lockdown was been lifted just after 1pm and students are being released early. Parents may now come to campus to pick up students.

Lieutenant Christopher Mahurin with Santa Rosa Police says it was first reported shortly before 11am.

“He wasn’t pointing the gun at anyone else, but a student saw it possibly in a waistband. When officers got on scene, several students ran into a classroom. We’re in the midst of pulling students out one by one from that classroom, but as of now we haven’t located a firearm or threat to the students.”

It’s unclear how many students are in that classroom. No shots have been reported. KSRO also spoke with Melanie Martin, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent at Santa Rosa City Schools:

“They’re currently on lockdown, and all the other remaining surrounding schools are business as usual.”

Vanessa Wedderburn, PIO for Santa Rosa City Schools told KSRO, “No gun was found. We are relieved that this was a false alarm. All students and staff are safe.”

Sources tell KSRO that students in adjacent classrooms were searched as well. After the search of students was completed, officers continued to search for the weapon in additional areas, including the roof of the classroom. Montgomery High School Principal Laurie Fong sent a message to parents and staff. It read in part “It is room 72. There are some students and teacher[s] in the classroom. SRPD was on site with our own Officer and others responded immediately.”

This is a developing story and will be updated.
