Dr. Kismet Baldwin-Santana, who recently took on the role of interim health officer for Sonoma County, has been appointed as the health officer for San Mateo County. The news of her departure came as a surprise to Sonoma County Health employees, who learned about it through media reports. Sonoma County did not publicly announce Baldwin-Santana’s departure until after it was reported by the media. Concerns have been raised by public health staff about the lack of information regarding her departure. Baldwin-Santana expressed her gratitude for serving as Sonoma County’s deputy and interim health officer but did not address concerns about the way staff learned secondhand of her departure. She will begin her new role in San Mateo County on August 7, replacing Dr. Scott Morrow.
