Santa Rosa Toddler Nearly Dies After Fentanyl Exposure; Mother Arrested

A Santa Rosa mother has been arrested after her one-year-old daughter nearly died from a fentanyl overdose. Early Tuesday morning, Santa Rosa police got a call about a toddler having a medical emergency. The officer arrived at the residence on Boyd Street and found the toddler lying on the ground unconscious and not breathing and someone attempting CPR. The officer took over CPR and the toddler started breathing on their own soon after. The toddler was then taken to the hospital. After an investigation, police determined that the girl was exposed to fentanyl due to the mother’s negligence. The mom, 39-year-old Barbara Heywood, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse.
