Fire Victim Trust Expects to be Done Evaluating Claims By End of 2023

The last of the claims from the Fire Victim Trust are expected to be evaluated and processed by the end of the year. The $13.5 billion trust established for victims of PG&E-caused wildfires says they’ve notified 97-percent of claimants what they were owed. However, about 14-percent haven’t accepted the trust’s determination of what they’re owed. Beginning July 1st, the trust will tighten the rules for those who haven’t accepted the sums. It will first give them 30 days to accept their determination or request a reconsideration. If there is no response, the trust would consider the amount acceptable and will start payments. Only about 60-percent of claims have been paid. PG&E’s deal to fund the Trust as the company came out of bankruptcy meant that half of the $13.5 billion dollars would be in cash and half in company stock. Trust administrators are forced to slowly sell portions of stock to further fund the Trust.
